The customer

In January 2016, the Inselspital merged with the Spital Netz Bern AG to form the Insel Gruppe AG. Thus, Insel Gruppe AG forms the largest and leading medical care system in Switzerland.
Insel Gruppe comprises six hospitals in the canton of Bern:

• Inselspital Bern (University Hospital of Bern)
• Spital Tiefenau
• Regional hospitals in Belp, Riggisberg, Münsingen and Aarberg

Together, these six hospitals combine primary care with state-of-the-art medicine and teaching with research.

Each year, approximately 900,000 patients from all over the world are treated at the hospitals of the Insel Gruppe AG, whose focus is always on providing the highest quality of care. At the core of its range of services is the graduated care model, in which patients receive the optimal treatment for them in the shortest possible time at the best location. As hospitals with a public service mandate, their facilities are open to all patients. The highly specialized Inselspital provides access to the latest developments and methods in all areas of medicine at all times.

With over 12,000 employees, the Insel Gruppe is one of the largest employers in the Bern region. In addition, the hospital group is the most important institution when it comes to the training of young doctors and a top training provider for a wide range of professions.

The project

As the result of a tendering process, the Insel Gruppe AG decided to purchase synedra AIM as its new "Medical Content Management System" at the end of the year 2019.

The goal of the "Medical Content" project is to make all medical content (all media in the form of images, documents, biosignals, videos and audio files) available to doctors, caregivers and therapists.

For this purpose, the various archiving systems in use at the Insel Gruppe were consolidated and migrated into synedra's archive. Likewise, a variety of clinic-specific systems and a great number of devices were connected to synedra AIM.

Important goals at a glance:

• Facilitating daily work routines of medical stakeholders by providing medical content in an adequate manner
• Providing a multiformat viewer to display all content and to facilitate the search for medical data
• Centrally consolidating all medical content in a harmonized, readable form
• Providing interoperability between the Health Content Management System and the clinical expert systems as well as mobile applications
• Standardized data and archive management across all relevant applications, thus economical use of all resources
• synedra AIM in use since: summer 2021
• Connected HIS/RIS: Phönix CGM - new EPIC
